Zany
Have finally got a bit settled. Have moved into the new place and we're *very slowly* getting used to it. I just got my laptop's Interweb connexion fixed up today. Sigh.
In a 2 second whur: We've gone camping, went for 2 of Thad's best friends' birthday parties, moved into the house, had Sheralyn visit Thad's kinder to talk about dental hygeine, gone for his prep transition program, watched Dan Zane... can't remember anymore. Oh, and Don presented his thesis, which went swimmingly!!!! He looked so dashing and intelligent on stage. Thad was there too and behaved sooooo well. Oh, and I got 1st runner up for a photo competition. Yay! OH, AND WE WATCHED RYUICHI SAKAMOTO and ALVA NOTO perform INSEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was freaking mindblowing!!!!!! Thanks, once again, Jane for lookin aft Thad!!!
It takes me an hour to drive into Thad's kinder from home, 5 min to sign him into kinder and 15 min to drive to my GP placement. Each way. And my GP supervisor's strict about attendance. Sigh.
Watched Blind Date last night with Jane, Seok Ming, Hui and gang. Suprisingly, of the 10 odd people that were there, I was the only one who liked it! Some felt it too repetitive, others, meaningless and oleaginous. Some felt that it expounded concepts that we had already imbibed.
The concepts are definitely not revelatory. However, I liked the medium in which they chose to portray the evolution of age-old concepts of patriotism, deism, tolerance and humanity. Isn't that one function of art as a medium? And technically, I thought the dancing, collage of backdrop, and especially the music were excellent.
What was evident from the reviews of the gang, is that we're so exposed to war, violence and its futility, through the media and such, that we're numbed by the concept and, as a consequence, nonchalant. Analogous to our response to plastering shocking images (which I really see in the hospital) on ciggie packets. Other people suffering becomes platforms for us to intellectualise or ignore and focus on our own trials instead. Don thinks it's a silent plea that everything was not as it is, or a coping mechanism for normality.
The alternate response, according to the choreographer, is one of "toxic certainty", perhaps a product of our constantly being taught (?told) that sitting on the fence is a stance in itself.
The night ended, rather apropros, grandiloquently at a quaint bar in the city.
DAN ZANE WAS GREAT!!!!!
Two of the band members came up to talk to Thad to tell him that his Ramones T-shirt was cool!!!!!!! After the show, the drummer strummed a ukelele while he and Thad sang Blitzkrieg Bop together!!!!!!! While getting our $30 CD signed by Dan the man, Thad proudly told him that he plays the guitar. WTH???!!!???
Sigh. Daylight saving is here. Have to prepare Thad's breakkie, snack for the drive home and dinner for tomorrow. ARRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
