Polly wants a cracker
May the silverfish rest in peace and find eternal life in Silverfish Heaven. (I've always wondered if cat heaven is mouse hell.) Thaddeus and Donald burried lil silvie in the Rose garden opposite our house in his orange tinted Tic Tac coffin. Thad said a solemn eulogy and threw dirt over the grave.
Today, Thaddeus and Don were reading a story on parrots and Thad started repeating everything Don said. Don, obviously not in one of his brightest moments, got irritated and demanded that Thad stopped, only to realise, mid-sentence, that Thad was pretending to be a parrot.
Busy busy busy busy busy busy busy busy busy busy busy busy busy busy.

All hail democracy
Thad had a traumatic experience yesterday. We went for a party thrown by the Sociallist Alliance yesterday and they had a free jumping castle installed. It was magnificent. More Indiana Jones than Disney, with obstacles, long slides, deep tunnels and hidden crevices along the way. While Thad was in the middle of it, it suddenly started hailing 2 - 5 mm ice pieces. He didn't come out even though the kids that went in after him had emerged. After the necessary additional 10 second wait for my un-athletic son that inherited my genes, I realised something was wrong and tried to go in after him, only to slip and fall on my bum trying to get onto the castle. Then, a woman volunteer that went in with him, cause she thought he was so cute, carried him out.
Thad was crying and we were thoroughly drenched. We ran for cover. He was inconsolable but I gathered that he wasn't scared of the hail (he managed to inform me indignantly that he's seen hail before) and wasn't hurt.
Luckily, we bumped into the good Samaritan that saved Thad and she told me that he was stuck in a hole in the castle.
Gathering all my psychiatry skills to circumvent post traumatic stress disorder, we talked about his experience while I dried his clothes under a hand dryer in a smelly, dingy toilet. The apparent laxative property of hail was discovered then, as flocks of women rushed into the loo to relieve their tummies and accost my senses.
After we were dry, Thad and I visited the Old Melbourne Goal.
Thad had show and tell today. He brought a silverfish carcass that we found from a textbook I borrowed from the library. We caught it in an old Tic Tac box. He told everyone that mom screamed loudly when we saw the bug and it lives in books because it eats paper, glus, hair and plants. It has 2 long antennae at the top of its head. It's called silverfish because it's silver, but he doesn't know why it's called fish. Don had to restrain me from bringing pom poms and banners and from climbing the school walls to video tape Thad's performace.
Have to take a shower and then sleep. Damn, so busy now, hardly have time to apply for internship.

Labourious
Thad changed himself and put on his own shoes this morning. We walked to school the usual way, and passed the usual sights. Uncle Mario's cafe, the driveways where he slows down and looks right and left, the travel agent that's closing down. Then we got to the 2 beautifully decorated 2-storey townhouses side by side. The deep blue house emblazoned with the "Under New Management" sign, with incense sticks littering the front mini-garden, and the maroon house, well-hung with decorative lights and a Neon light message to horny men that fulfilment is available 24 hours at minimal cost (possibly less than health costs in Singapore). The brothels that perenially smell of bath soap.
Thad: "What's those houses?"
Mel: "Em..."
T: "It's for adults right?"
M: "Em..."
T: "What do the adults do in there?"
M: "Em..."
T: "Do they play?"
M: "Well, yes..."
T: "What do they play?"
M: "Well..."
T: "Games?"
M: "Yep. Adult games." Cough cough.
T: "Can children go in?"
M: "No!"
T: "When a kid becomes a grown-up?"
M: "Well... Hey, Thad, do you prefer the strawberry tic tacs or the passionfruit mint tic tacs?"
I came home at 9 PM after feeling totally incompetent and in everyone's way at the delivery ward. Thad was asleep by the time I got back and I won't see him tomorrow morning cause I'm going in at 7 AM.

Lint in the closet
I told Thaddeus a story last week that I made up. Today, he wanted to listen to the same story with no differences at all in the story line. Being half asleep, I told a similar story with subtle differences in details. Pedant that he is, Thad took it upon him to correct all my mistakes. He ended up telling most of the story in the end.
Thaddeus' friends started show and tell today. Out of the 4 people, 3 of them forgot to bring something and spoke about their weekend. The last one is from a non English speaking background and declined to speak.
Thad wants to bring a drawing next Monday. So exciting! Maybe he can bring his umbilical cord stump. Or the comfy Mammy Poko nappy with Winnee the Pooh characters on the back from Singapore. Or his neat fruit flavoured toothpaste from Singapore. Or some of mummy's navel lint.
Suggesstions anyone?
