Long Time Coming
Thad has been in Prep for half a year now and just got his first prep report card. Nothing we didn't know. He's got issues listening and paying attention, always wanting to do things his way. However, he's improving on his interpersonal skills and apparently has unusually advanced apptitude and talent for Maths. His Reading is above standard too. Well done Thad.
The blips in his social development were always when I was absent, due to being away from the family due to work. What an interesting academic observation of social development! His patience and tolerance with friends also improved after he started Karate. He's advanced to yellow tip now and enjoys his lessons. Martial arts is great for teaching people respect and that non-violence is much better and effective at achieving things than the use of physical force.
I'm doing shiftwork now in Emergency. It suxors cause I'm acquiring eyebags and crowsfeet... somemore just before my wedding! Oh yes! Don and I are getting married on the 7th of July. We're skipping the engagement rigmarole.
I had a couple of days off last week and we spent 4 days in the snow. We went to Mt Buller and stayed at a FANTASTIC ski Lodge called Coonamar. Skiing is exhillarating! I love that it's a sport about always being in control, yet trusting and adapting to the environment. Thad initially, as usual, had trouble listening to instructions and was slow to pick up skills, but eventually settled. He can now walk on skis and do a snow plow and come to a stop. Well done Thad!
Thad doesn't practice his guitar as much as he should, or not at all, really. He's suppossed to play the Peter Gunn Theme for our wedding, but he's not going to be able to if he doesn't put in the work. He says that if he doesn't remember how to play the guitar, he'll go on stage and hum the tune instead. Great, except that he's tone deaf@!!!!!
Winter's here and it's freezing. It's good to see more rain, now that El Nino has runned its course. It's also great to see that mainstream media, poolitix and the wider community are so involved in green issues now! Commercial companies jumping on the bandwagon is a great thing, as far as I'm concerned. Anyhoo, cause of the cold, Thad has temporarily suspended swimming and will start Chinese Lessons instead. He needs to learn more than the obligatory pee gu (Buttock) and ni hao ma.
I hate Emergency Medicine! It was so different as a medical student. I hate that I get no continuity, I hate the shiftwork, I hate that 90% of the patients I see are boring. There's also less camaraderie between the staff in ED. The good thing, though, is that I get to be one of the first few people to see a fresh patient and work up diagnoses and management, and occasionally, cat 1s. Oh, and the ED Nurses are absolutley fantastic! Maybe not as nice as ward nurses, but definitely very skilled and competent.
Oh, Don has decided to become a Ninja. He bought a balaclava and has been wearing it around the house for no apparent reason and randomly shouting Japanese sounding words that he makes up. Also, he's got a (scraggly) moustache and goatee now. He started leaving it till the Liverpool Champions League match against AC Milan, as a show of solidarity between fans. However, they lost, so he's not shaving. Even for the wedding. Will post pics soon.
Ok. Better settle Thad and put him to bed. I start work at 11PM. Yawn. :( I DON"T WANT TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
