Durian Jam

Thad has started kinder class at Queensberry street child care centre. He's made a few new friends but doesn't know all their names. He was randomly attacked by some boy who cut his left arm, near his shoulder, with a pair of scissors. Luckily he was wearing a shirt. He has a 1.5 mm scar. It's wonderful to see healthy children growing up. Thad and Alex, his best friend, still play together.

He's drawn many nice pics and "writes" letters to Don and I everyday. I was so touched I started crying in his class. Sure beats seeing children with chronic illnesses at the children's hospital.

Thad was complimented by his teachers because he can spell and write his name. He and Henry, a friend from school, were playing some writing game with alphabet pieces.

We had lamb and veg for dinner tonight. Thad made the gravy. We were suppossed to play in the park for 100 minutes, but he was famished cause he didn't eat lunch in school.

Thad has "liu lian ong" stuck in his head. Only, it sounds like "yu yan ong". Hooray for Yap and Paul and Joe!!!

Thad and Don jam together sometimes. Thad plays the drums (pots and pans and random surfaces) and the rubber band instrument (stretched taut over an empty, cut surface of a tissue box). He is also Don's backup for Race for the prize during the "side-by-side" bit. Hooray for Evan!!!

Thad still insists that he used to be old and has "changed to be normal because of magic, of course". He says that he used to be a teenager, like uncle Chris.

It's Donald's birthday tomorrow. Thad and I have been back for a week.

Enter the Dragon

Thad attended creche in Singapore while I was galavanting in Africa. So sanitised and regimented compared to our uni creche in Melb.

He made new friends and proclaimed to his teacher, Mrs Manu, that he will celebrate his birthday early, on the 13th of Feb (a day after I return to Singapore), cause his real birthday is on the 24th of March. He told everyone that his mom will bake a power ranger cake.

Thankfully, Steph found a shop in Holland V that makes Power Ranger Cakes. Grandma bought part favours from Toys R Us too... a far cry from his real birthday parties. We were 3 hours late for Thad's 3rd birthday. Everything is homemade.

Thad wants a blue's clues cake for his 4th birthday.

We'll try to be on time this year.

Squeak Goes the Weasel in the Garden of Good and Evil

Today, we went to the Royal Australian Airforce Museum. Thad asked a volunteer in a squeaky high-pitched, soft voice, whether one needs to be quiet in the exhibitions. He also told us, you know, that the helicopters and planes belong to the armany, you know. We'll go back one day for the Interactive Air Show. We got posters and a blue balloon to bring home. Thad was interested in them until we got home and he remembered the computer games. Current addiction: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Battle Nexus.

Thad asked if the Australians were good or bad in the war. I went into my sagacious mode about human nature, extolling peace yet stating the neccessity for war, telling Thad that everyone is inherently good... and he simply retorted that he is fighting the war against evil monsters and he is good.

Time to cook dinner!!!

The King is dead! Long live the King!

We went to Werribee Open zoo today, partly to gloat about having been to Africa and having seen the Big 5, plus cheetas, plus lions mating, plus MASAI giraffes, plus lions on a tree, plus leopards eating kill, plus wildebeests birthing and migrating... and partly for Thad's love of animals.

While nonplussed about the wonder of ROTHSCHILD girraffes and kudus, he got excited by the line of ants, bull(dozer), sprinkler system that resembled a camel spitting and rhino mummy pooing.

Don and Thad decided to mimick a camel by everting their lower lip. He saw a lady behind and pointed to her, remarking how she was joining in the fun... only she wasn't... her lower lip naturally hung out...

Thad is a know it all, you know. Wonder where he gets it from... He proudly informed everyone that meerkats eat mice, you know. Thanks Thad.

We're going to the Airforce museum and Science museum tomorrow.

Oh, did I mention I saw lions mating?
